Castleford Tigers hit with more injury woes as Danny McGuire assesses Leigh Leopards loss

Castleford Tigers head coach Danny McGuire

Castleford Tigers boss Danny McGuire admitted that he doesn’t know what sort of team he’ll be able to put together heading into a busy period.

The Tigers lost 20-6 at home to Leigh Leopards on Friday night and McGuire is unsure how to fix their current on-field issues.

His side also picked up a couple of injuries to be assessed on Monday but admits that he doesn’t know which players will be ready to play on Thursday night.

Castleford head to Wakefield Trinity and with just four days in between games, they’re struggling for numbers.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, he said: “We’ve got a few walking wounded, we had a few players come off there and a few people are strapped up.

“Zac Cini probably shouldn’t have continued playing, Tex Hoy’s hurt his hamstring, Westerman limped off.”

“I’m hoping we can put a team together for Thursday. It is what it is.”

McGuire stated that his side are doing everything right in training throughout the week but it’s just not translating into on-field performances for some reason.

He added: “I don’t really know what to make of it, to be honest. I thought we tried hard and showed lots of endeavour but then we just did some really silly things. That’s been the story of the season.

“We’ve had opportunities that we’ve not quite been able to take, we’re just very inconsistent with the things that we’re doing.

“We’re aware of it, we’re speaking about it, we’re trying to fix it but just not doing it.

“I’m struggling a bit, all the players are saying and doing the right things, they care, they’re working hard but we’re just not transferring that to when it matters on a Saturday night.”

However, he was quick to praise Leigh following their victory and said his Castleford Tigers need to stop shooting themselves in the foot from the beginning.

He finished: “Sometimes, we’re trying hard in the wrong areas and putting ourselves under pressure.

“We’ve been working towards a good start for two weeks and we just put ourselves under pressure from the off. We’re not playing with confidence at the minute and we can’t afford to do these things.

“Leigh are a good team, they punish you when they get opportunities.”

I have watched Cas for over 30 years and this is by far the worst team I have seen through those years. Just when you think things can’t get any worse than they were with Radford in charge, the performances this season show that it can and has.
Crowds are down, I can’t blame the fans, why would you pay your hard earned to watch dross. I have an offer of free tickets to Thursdays game at Wakefield, I said thanks but no thanks.
