Castleford Tigers head coach Lee Radford reveals short-term replacement for Jake Trueman

Castleford Tigers head coach Lee Radford has been doing it tough with injuries in recent weeks.

With the likes of Danny Richardson, Niall Evalds, Sosaia Feki and Alex Sutcliffe just some of those suffering serious injuries in 2022, the former Hull FC boss has had to tinker in several positions as well as bringing in Alex Mellor for the back-row.

That being said, halfback has been a particularly difficult spot to get right for Radford with Richardson, Gareth O’Brien and now Jake Trueman suffering a serious injury, leaving the Castleford boss down to the bare bones.

At the Magic Weekend clash against Leeds Rhinos at St James’ Park, Radford went with Greg Eden at halfback which was certainly a choice out of left field.

And, Radford has confirmed that Eden will stay in the halves for the weekend’s visit of Warrington Wolves to the Jungle.

“Greg has got a chance of staying there,” Radford told BBC Radio Leeds.

“I don’t want to take away the good things we’ve been doing offensively and what we’ve done throughout the year.

“He did alright, he wasn’t bad at all, he just had a training session and a team run as preparation when your’e playing out of position that’s not ideal.

“He’s had a couple of sessions in there and hopefully he can continue to improve.”

It remains to be see whether or not the Tigers can bounce back from that disappointing 34-20 loss to bitter rivals Leeds last weekend as Daryl Powell returns to the Jungle for the first time since leaving for the Halliwell Jones Stadium ahead of the 2023 season.

One player who will not be available for Radford, however, will be Liam Watts who has picked up his fourth ban of the season following a high tackle in that loss to the Rhinos.
