Castleford Tigers’ Greg Eden set to play in unusual position as Lee Radford makes surprising decision

Greg Eden has become one of Castleford Tigers’ most potent attacking outlets in recent seasons.

With over a try per game to his name, the fleet-footed winger can finish tries no one else can and is effective at helping his side come out of defence.

Unfortunately, injuries have blighted Eden in recent seasons and, for head coach Lee Radford, it’s all about keeping Eden fit – and that means a completely different training regime to the rest of his peers.

“He’s coming back from a hamstring operation which is his second one,” Radford said.

“He’s had some real issues with his calves which was a head scratcher for us in pre-season, but Matty Crowther (physio) has managed to nip that in his backside.

“He’s a racehorse, he doesn’t participate in how the rest of them prep for a training session.

“He’s had a different pre-season to everyone else but he’s had to have that physically and he has a different week to everyone else in terms of his content with what he’s doing.

“Touch wood he is on the field every week which he hasn’t been able to do in the past few years and the more he is on the field the better for us.”

Radford revealed just how devastating Eden actually is.

“He needs half a chance and usually he puts it away, but he’s also a danger running laterally.

“For a big bloke who is fatigued when someone skips across like that it can be really tough.”

However, despite making his way back into the Castleford team earlier in the season, Eden is playing in the reserves this afternoon – in the unusual position of centre.

Alongside Eden is Jason Qareqare, Sosaia Feki and Daniel Smith with the quartet not in line to play against Catalans Dragons tomorrow afternoon in Super League.

That must mean that Bureta Faraimo and Derrell Olpherts will be Radford’s wingers for that clash.
