Castleford Tigers counting the cost of victory against Toulouse Olympique with big injury blow as Lee Radford gives post-match thoughts

Castleford Tigers were in a rampant mood at the Jungle tonight for round seven of the Super League.

Toulouse Olympique were their opponents, but there was no je nais sais quoi for Sylvain Houles’ men as they were well beaten by a West Yorkshire side hungry for blood.

After a stellar 40-16 thrashing of Leeds Rhinos in the Challenge Cup Sixth Round last weekend, Castleford looked determined from the outset to inflict a sixth defeat on Toulouse.

Though the French side looked fluent in attack, they could only breach the Tigers’ line once – and in the 78th minute.

Despite the Tigers’ superb win, they will be sweating on the fitness one of their major threat with Gareth O’Brien having to leave the field in the second-half with a head injury.

The halfback didn’t return after failing his HIA and will likely miss Castleford’s Challenge Cup Quarter-Final clash with Hull KR at Craven Park next weekend.

With O’Brien kicking six goals and having a hand in everything the home side did well, it would be a big loss for Lee Radford’s men who will travel to East Yorkshire in a buoyant mood.

Hull KR will also be in the mood for a Challenge Cup Semi-Final having put Warrington Wolves to the sword in an emphatic 34-18 victory.

“I thought we stuck to what we needed to in the first-half,” Radford told BBC Radio Leeds following the game.

“I was really disappointed to concede the one at the end and this had the potential to be a banana skin but it hasn’t felt like that this week – it hasn’t felt like a must win which is good.

“Round one against Salford had that nervous feeling and today probably should have and didn’t.”
