Super League side Castleford Tigers have confirmed the cancellation of this weekend’s upcoming fixture on account of the adverse weather.
The Tigers were set to face off against Sheffield Eagles for what be former Castleford full-back Quentin Laulu-Togaga’e’s testimonial and final ever match, however, the weather has now forced it to be postponed.
It is the third rugby league game slated for this weekend that has been cancelled with James Saltonstall’s testimonial game for Halifax Panthers against Warrington Wolves axed, as well as Widnes Vikings’ pre-season friendly with North Wales Crusaders.
Temperatures have dropped below zero overnight throughout the week creating icy and snowy scenes all across the UK but particularly in the areas of the rugby league heartlands.
The fixture between Castleford and Sheffield was slated to take place at Featherstone’s Millenium Stadium, a relatively short distance from the Tigers’ own ground.
However, a pitch inspection held at the ground this morning has led to the decision to call off Friday night’s fixture between Sheffield Eagles and Castleford Tigers.
