Castleford Tigers confirm exit of former Hull FC man after trial

Hull FC

Castleford Tigers have confirmed the exit of a former Hull FC man following a brief trial spell at The Jungle.

Danny McGuire’s side were the only Super League team not in action this week after being knocked out of the Challenge Cup in Round Three, however, their head coach promised that they would be worked hard during the week off following the lacklustre start.

One of the major flaws and criticisms of Castleford this season has been a lack of size in the pack and they had attempted to rectify that earlier in the season when they picked up former Hull FC man Nick Staveley.

Staveley had been released by the Black and Whites with the forward still recovering from a knee injury that ended his 2024 campaign. Despite that, the Tigers took a gamble on him with Staveley agreeing to a trial period.

It has now been confirmed by Castleford that the trial has come to an end with Staveley leaving the Tigers and seeking an opportunity elsewhere.

A statement from Castleford read: “Castleford Tigers can announce that Nick Staveley has left the club. Staveley was on a short-term trial after being released by Hull FC, and the club have decided not to extend the trial.

“Staveley was recovering from a knee injury and in the time he was with the club he wasn’t able to participate in first team training. His work centred around recovery from that injury and so the club was not able to properly assess his ability or test him within the first team training environment.

“We wish Nick all the best with the rest of his recovery and the next stage of his career.”

The 21-year-old had made eight appearances for Hull FC since debuting in 2023.
