Castleford Tigers coach reveals the two signings who will change things at the Jungle

Going into 2023, Castleford Tigers haven’t been quite as busy as last year but they have made some very astute signings ahead of the new season.

Their two biggest signings are of course new halfbacks Gareth Widdop from Warrington Wolves and Jacob Miller from Wakefield Trinity.

Assistant coach Andy Last told Sky Sports that he believes that can have a transformative effect on the Tigers in 2023:

“Then just offensively, the addition of Jacob Miller is going to really help us. He’s an experienced Super League player with a really strong kicking game – and you add Gareth Widdop to that.

“If we can keep them on the field, they’re going to cause opposition teams a lot of problems with their experience.”

He also went on to praise the wider group they currently have and what they have been doing in pre-season:

“We inherited a really skilful group with middles who can play with the ball and have a really good catch and pass, and we added to that with the signing of Joe Westerman,” Last said.

“What has been really pleasing is the lads have come [back to pre-season training] with a real appetite from a defensive point of view.”
