Castleford Tigers have confirmed that club captain Alex Mellor will leave the club at the end of the season, with the second-row forward the latest to depart.
The Tigers had previously announced their end-of-season exits as they confirmed which off-contract players were not having their deals renewed, but they’ve now announced that Mellor, who was contracted for 2027, will leave as well.
After arriving at Wheldon Road in 2022 from Leeds Rhinos, Mellor went on to make 112 appearances for the Tigers with his 2025 season being a standout campaign from the forward.
That stellar campaign saw Mellor land a new two-year deal at the club which would keep him at Castleford until the end of the 2027 season, though he won’t see that deal out after securing a move to another Super League club that is understood to be Catalans Dragons.
Set to turn 32 later this month, Mellor will bring experience to Les Dracs with the second-rower currently boasting over 220 games of Super League experience.
He started his career with Bradford Bulls before joining Huddersfield then Leeds ahead of his switch to Wheldon Road, during which time he has been a consistent performer.
