Zak Hardaker is now a Leeds Rhinos player, but there were a number of clubs that were interested before he made that move.
After leaving Wigan Warriors to be nearer his home in West Yorkshire, Hardaker was the subject of interest from four clubs – Leeds, Castleford Tigers, Leigh Centurions and Featherstone Rovers.
But, Castleford boss Lee Radford has revealed just how strong their interest in the fullback was.
“Obviously we had a look at someone like him and understand the situation what’s gone on,” Radford told BBC Radio Leeds.
“Was there any formal offer though? – No, nothing like that.
“I think after Leeds picked up a few injuries he became a bit of a necessity for them.”
Radford revealed just why the interest in Hardaker didn’t go any further from just interest.
“It’s like anyone at the moment really, it’s salary cap – it’s hard to bring anyone in.
“There’s no coppers left in the jar – if anyone becomes available we have a look, we’re getting offered players on loan right now, but we literally can’t do anything because we’re at cap.”
Castleford will take on Catalans Dragons this Friday in the south of France following two home games in a row against Leeds and St Helens.
