Upon joining the Castleford Tigers in the off-season, Lee Radford began an overhaul of his squad.
In came the likes of Jake Mamo, Bureta Faraimo and Mahe Fonua with a number of those signings in their late 20s and early 30s.
However, this week, livewire fullback or winger Jason Qareqare signed a new two-year extension at the club and Radford has revealed that keeping hold of young players and bringing in younger recruits will be the transfer policy going forward.
“It’s really important (Qareqare signing a new deal),” Radford told BBC Radio Leeds.
“I don’t think you need to be Albert Einstein to look at the average of our squad and realise that it is top heavy.
“With recruitment moving forward that is something we are well aware of, so we will need to make moves to compensate that and bringing through what we can of our own is also really important.”
The likes of Daryl Clark, Adam Milner and Oliver Holmes have all come through the Tigers ranks, but that potential has somewhat dried up in recent seasons.
Under Radford, however, it appears destined to grow from the ashes.
