Castleford Tigers 26-18 Huddersfield Giants: Highlights, player ratings and talking points

Castleford Tigers took on Huddersfield Giants tonight at the Jungle live on Sky Sports.

The Tigers couldn’t have started any better, weathering a great Huddersfield storm before scoring 14 points in ten minutes.

Derrell Olpherts notched his second try shortly after before Jermaine McGillvary got an important try just before the break as the Tigers led 20-6 at half-time.

Jake Mamo crossed after half-time to make it 26-6 with Chris McQueen getting a consolation score with three minutes left to make it 26-12 before Will Pryce made the game look closer than what it should have been.

The only downsides to the Castleford win was two yellow cards to Paul McShane and Kenny Edwards.

Highlights

Jake Trueman’s try was a thing of beauty with the halfback dummying his way through the Giants’ line to stride over.

Jermaine McGillvary somehow got the ball down in the corner despite Derrell Olpherts’ best attempts.

Danny Richardson’s 40/20 was utter class.

When five Castleford men pulled Innes Senior over the line, the celebrations amongst the Tigers men was superb.

Talking points

1. Where has this been from for Castleford?

Castleford were incredible tonight at the Jungle. The defensive hunger was immense from all 1-17 whilst they finally looked as though they were clicking in attack. The scrambling defence was as good as it has been all year and Lee Radford will have been overjoyed.

2. Richardson in form

Danny Richardson looks to be enjoying his rugby league and then some. Last week he proved the hero against Catalans Dragons with a golden point drop goal whilst this week he kicked a 40/20, put some incredible kicks in and was instrumental in defence. Richardson is out of contract at the end of the season, but he is certainly putting himself in the shop window.

3. Disappointment from Huddersfield

They had won six in a row before tonight, but Huddersfield were firmly outclassed and outenthused at the Jungle tonight. It was difficult to pinpoint what went wrong for the Giants after starting the game on the front foot, but it appeared as though Castleford did on Huddersfield what Huddersfield do to other teams.
