Castleford Tigers 10-50 Salford Red Devils: Highlights, player ratings and talking points

Castleford Tigers took on Salford Red Devils at the Jungle this afternoon, live at Sky Sports.

The Red Devils hit for the first points with a Marc Sneyd goal after George Griffin was found offside and then it was all one-way traffic from Salford after that.

Sneyd finished off a great Brodie Croft make with Ken Sio then cantering over from great Kallum Watkins play.

Jack Ormondroyd scored a brilliant individual try to make it 20-0 before Jake Mamo finally breached the Salford defence and they had another when Greg Eden looped a ball over the top for Derrell Olpherts.

20-10 down at half-time and Castleford had to score first in the second-half.

The second-half was, however, much worse from a Castleford perspective as the Red Devils scored four tries with the Tigers in dismal form.

The pick of the bunch was Croft’s effort as he scampered over from a scrum, but Sneyd had just enough time to bring up the 50.

Highlights

Ken Sio finished off a wonderful Kallum Watkins break.

Jack Ormondroyd’s try was a thing of brilliance as he dummied Jake Mamo to dot down.

Jake Mamo waltzed through the Salford defence for a great individual try.

Brodie Croft scampered over from a scrum.

Talking points

1. Castleford dismal

It was a must-win game for Castleford, but it was an atrocious performance from 1-17 for the Tigers. It looked as though Castleford weren’t really playing for much despite a shot at Old Trafford potentially waiting for them if they were able to get into the top six. The Tigers’ attack was disjointed whilst the defence was appalling at times with countless holes.

2. Salford’s Grand Final threat

Salford are most definitely in the hunt for a Grand Final on this performance. Brodie Croft and Marc Sneyd were brilliant whilst Kallum Watkins and Tim Lafai were running rings round their opponents.
