Castleford target forward and outside back

Castleford Tigers’ Director of Rugby Jon Wells says the club are actively searching for a forward and an outside back.

The RFL granted Cas salary cap dispensation in January following a potential season-ending injury to Luke Gale; however the club are yet to take advantage of this.

Head coach Daryl Powell has had to deal with an injury crisis in recent weeks and is short in a number of key areas, with the club agreeing to mutually terminate Ben Roberts’ contract two weeks ago.

Despite being third in the Super League table, back-to-back defeats have highlighted Castleford’s problems and Wells took to the club’s website to address the fans.

“As it stands, we are actively looking to bring a forward and an outside back into the club,” he said

“The arrival of the forward is likely to happen very quickly, but the addition of another outside back will take a little more time.

“As mentioned in ROAR (club magazine), any key additions to the squad need to be right fit for the club in all of the aspects that we consider during our recruitment process.

“We have therefore turned down a couple of players who have been made available to us and remain in discussions with a number of clubs and representatives, both domestic and overseas.”
