Castleford swoop for playmaker

Castleford Tigers are believed to be close to signing Leeds Rhinos halfback Callum McLelland, according to totalrl.com.

McLelland began his rugby league career at the Tigers, progressing through the club’s youth system before leaving the sport to join Edinburgh Rugby at the end of 2017.

After a spell in Scotland, McLelland returned to the 13-a-side game with Leeds, signing for three-and-a-half years.

The halfback was subsequently loaned to Featherstone in 2019 and 2020, but has played just 11 games for the Rhinos in two years.

It seems as though McLelland will be a replacement for Danny Richardson, whose Castleford career has been called into question the past few months.
