Castleford star reveals club’s reaction to Joe Westerman incident

Castleford Tigers’ start to the season was rocked before a ball was kicked.

This stemmed from an incident concerning star player Joe Westerman.

The loose-forward was at the centre of a controversy where a video of him was shared on social media which was followed by a second.

The club issued a statement and remarkably Joe Westerman started their opener against his former club Hull FC as a brilliant comeback from the Tigers nearly gave Cas a memorable win.

Around this time, then Castleford coach Lee Radford hit back at some of the coverage of the story.

But what was the club’s reaction to the affair behind the scenes.

Well, speaking on the Fully Game YouTube channel, Cas star Greg Eden was emphasised that the club were quick to help Westerman through the welfare officer.

When asked how the club reacted, Eden said: “We’ve got a welfare officer if anything like that happens. It’s all confidential and you can just go see him away from training, he’s there to speak with.

“Even if not he’ll help you with your career after, say if you want to do a course or become a joiner. There’s stuff to help you.”

Westerman has been in good form after having a week out of the side shortly after that and was brilliant against Hull KR until he suffered a nasty head knock which ended his night against the Robins and somewhat ended Cas’ chances of winning.
