Castleford star explains why he initially signed a short-term deal

Niall Evalds was one of Castleford’s star signings ahead of the 2021 season.

But, when he signed a one-year deal, some of the Tigers faithful were scratching their heads. The fullback has, of course, recently signed a long-term deal.

Now though, Evalds has explained just why it was a one-year deal initially.

“It’s obviously good to get my future sorted – the plan was to stick around,” Evalds said.

“I know I only signed a one-year deal initially but that was due to COVID and the financial concerns surrounding it.

“But, it was always going to get done.”

Evalds will likely be taking part in Castleford’s Challenge Cup final fixture against St Helens and that’s something he is clearly excited about.

“It’s all exciting, I wouldn’t say there is anything tough because it’s what you play rugby for.

“If you don’t want to play at Wembley in front of thousands of fans then you shouldn’t be playing the game.”
