It’s the story that will make all the headlines in this week’s newspapers.
Castleford Lock Lane – an amateur side in the National Conference Premier – have knocked League 1 side Oldham off their semi-professional perch with a stunning 22-12 victory this evening.
The game, broadcast on OurLeague as part of the broadcasting company’s further involvement in the sport, was 10-0 at half-time to the amateur side before Oldham led a second-half response.
That didn’t halt Lock Lane in their incredible path to Challenge Cup glory, posting another 12 points in the second forty minutes to register one of the greatest cup upsets ever.
Oldham have won the Challenge Cup three times – albeit their last success came in 1927 – but they will not be too proud of this result having been outclassed and outenthused.
Lock Lane will now play in the Third Round – and who knows where their dream might lead them to?
Manchester side Oldham, meanwhile, will have to go back to the drawing board ahead of their League 1 campaign where they will hope to earn promotion back to the Championship.
