Castleford Captain announces retirement

Castleford Tigers Women’s captain Claire Garner has announced her retirement from the game at the age of 30.

Garner signed for the Tigers from Keighley’s women’s team ahead of the 2019 season, and helped the club to the League Leaders Shield, and both major finals.

She was also part of the last England side in the World Cup in 2017 that reached the semi-finals. Also, she was part of the Bradford side that went unbeaten in 2017 and won the treble.

She said on Twitter:  “Rugby it has been an absolute pleasure but it’s time to hang the boots up for good. Thank you to everyone who made my rugby journey as enjoyable as it was.

“I experienced things I would never have done if it wasn’t for rugby.”
