Cas did not underestimate Wakefield says Powell

Castleford Tigers coach Daryl Powell has said that the Super League table-toppers did not underestimate Wakefield Trinity despite only just winning 25-24.

As the Tigers extended their win streak to ten games, Powell was left unhappy as he thought the attitude of his side wasn’t up to scratch.

Luke Gale’s drop goal in the 79th minute sealed the win for the Tigers but Powell was far from all smiles in the post-match press conference.

“We’ve won nine games straight so it’s human nature that now and again you dip a little bit,” Powell told Yorkshire Evening Post.

“I don’t think it’s underestimation – just natural – and we needed to rectify that.

“We’re mindful of it and the players are too; there’s a lesson for us that every week it’s on.

“We still had to win it twice in that second period too. The second half was a great example of how to win under pressure. Everything was better.”
