Captain’s sacrifice revealed as wife gives birth

Featherstone may well have won last weekend’s AB Sundecks 1895 Cup final, but the weekend was a joyous – if nerve-wracking – experience for captain James Lockwood.

Not only was Rovers’ skipper in London ready to lead his side to Wembley glory, his wife was also in labour at the same time.

Unfortunately for Lockwood, after travelling back home on Friday evening – Rovers only arrived in the capital on Friday afternoon – his wife’s ‘labour’ was a false alarm.

Lockwood lifted the cup for Featherstone later on Saturday, but missed his child’s birth on Saturday night.
