Calls for new England left edge after outstanding performances in the NRL from duo

With the World Cup waiting at the end of the year, fans are already putting together the England squads they think will have the best chance at ending a 50-year wait to see the trophy lifted by a British side with Great Britain themselves last winning it in 1972.

One of England’s strongest areas is the outside backs. Shaun Wane is spoilt for choice when it comes to wingers and centres with many stars in Super League shining from these positions.

However, there have been calls this weekend for Shaun Wane to put his trust in a new left edge following some stand out performances in the NRL this week from two English starlets Dom Young and Herbie Farnworth.

Both were more than solid in Round One last week with Dom Young scoring a try and coming up with massive try saver against Sydney Roosters whilst Farnworth helped Brisbane to a shock win over Souths.

This week, the pair were even better however. Farnworth scored a lovely brace as Brisbane beat Canterbury scoring off a one on one strip and racing 50 metres to touchdown before grabbing a second again showing great pace from centre.

Meanwhile, Young again scored a lovely try on the wing with a lovely finish in the corner despite Wests Tigers cover coming across.

Young even outshone England international Oliver Gildart who will also be hoping to figure at this year’s World Cup.

However, if Farnworth and Young continue to excel for their clubs, Wane may bring them together on the left edge for England. It seems that’s what fans want to see following today’s performance with a number of people praising the pair after stunning performances for Brisbane and Newcastle respectively.
