Burgess set for return at new club

The Daily Telegraph’s Paul Kent is reporting that former Wigan forward George Burgess is heading to St George Illawarra in the wake of Paul Vaughan’s sacking.

Burgess arrived at the DW Stadium ahead of the 2020 season on a marquee contract, but played just eight times before departing follow a serious hip injury.

However, successful surgery has left the 29-year-old eager to return to the sport, with an NRL move the most likely, Fox Sports has revealed.

“They’ve talked to the NRL about signing a some players on a short-term deal. Jamayne Taunoa-Brown — the Warriors prop — they’re going to sign him it looks like for three games,” Read told NRL 360.

“The news has come out about Jaydn Su’A signing for them for next year and I think Kenty mentioned George Burgess is a chance as well.”

“He’ll agree tonight, George Burgess, which is a big shock,” Kent responded.

Burgess made 150 appearances for the South Sydney Rabbitohs between 2012 and 2019.
