Burgess injury not as bad as feared

Sam Burgess sin bin

Scans have revealed that Sam Burgess suffered rib cartilage damage against Cronulla on Friday night and could be back in action next week.

It was feared the Rabbitohs skipper had suffered broken bones in the 26-12 defeat to the Sharks, but the news is a welcome boost to Souths head coach Michael Maguire.

With a World Cup around the corner, England fans will be holding their breath every time they see one of their star names pick up an injury.

Burgess will be monitored by the club’s medical staff during the week who will determine whether he is fit enough to face the Canberra Raiders on Saturday.

South Sydney currently sit a disappointing 14th on the NRL ladder with their finals hopes all but over after their latest defeat.
