Burgess given two-match ban

Burgess banned

South Sydney forward George Burgess has been given a two-match ban for elbowing Newcastle Knights player Mitchell Barnett.

Frustration boiled over for Burgess at the weekend after numerous handling errors, leading to him lashing out with the elbow on Barnett.

The England international was found guilty of Grade 2 Striking, to which he submitted an Early Guilty Plea and has been given a two-match ban.

There was worse news for the Rabbitohs with centre Hymel Hunt found guilty of a Grade 2 Reckless High Tackle, he will serve a four-match suspension.

Youngster Braidon Burns was also found guilty of foul play in the game against the Knights, copping a one-match ban for a Shoulder Charge.

Souths have won their last two matches but face rivals Sydney Roosters on Thursday, the Tricolours have won all three of their matches so far this season.
