Burgess arrested after allegedly failing roadside drugs test

Sam Burgess has been arrested after allegedly failing a roadside drug test.

Burgess, according to The Daily Telegraph, has been charged with driving an unregistered car with police stating he has never held a New South Wales drivers licence.

Police also allege that Burgess returned a positive road side drug test for cocaine, though this has been sent away for further analysis.

The Australian say Burgess was on the way to collect his two children when he was pulled over by police.

“Officers from the Hume traffic and highway patrol were conducting traffic enforcement duties on the Hume Highway at Braemar when they stopped a BMW X5 and spoke to the driver, a 32-year-old man,” a NSW Police spokesman said.

“He was subjected to a random roadside drug test before being taken to Southern Highlands police station where he underwent a secondary oral fluid test. A sample has been sent for further analysis.

“He is due to appear in Moss Vale Local Court on Tuesday 4th May 2021.”

Souths legend Burgess has endured a tough period since retiring from rugby league at the end of 2019 due to a chronic shoulder problem.

A well publicised split from wife Phoebe led to Burgess being found guilty of intimidating his father-in-law Mitchell Hooke in a court hearing that concluded on February 5.

He was sentenced to a two-year community corrections order and given a two-year apprehended violence order.
