Buchanan says huge Super League star needs to make massive move to “revive” his career

One of the big talking points lately has of course been centred around some huge potential signings.

One in particular is the rumoured move of Daryl Clark from Warrington Wolves to St Helens.

Jon Wilkin has now backed him to make this stunning move and said it would be a great signing.

He said on Sky Sports:

“He’s a dangerous ball carrier, when you play on the front foot he’s an outstanding player to have in your team.

“I don’t think he carries the same gravitas as James Roby but without doubt he’d be a great signing for any Super League club.”

Meanwhile, Jamie Jones-Buchanan has suggested that the move could revitalise his career: “I think a fresh move would be great for him as well, it might revive some of the quality that we saw when he won the Man of Steel.”

“They need a great hooker don’t they? Kruise Leeming was another who was linked there.”

This week, Saints boss Paul Wellens addressed these rumours.

“With James Roby retiring we’re on the lookout for a replacement,” Wellens said on Saints TV.

“We’ve already got Joey Lussick here. He is a great nine in his own right but we’re looking to bolster the squad.

“But I’m not going to comment on individual players.

“I respect that there’s a lot of talk out there and who we could sign to potentially replace James Roby.

“Those discussions are going on but behind the scenes. There’s a number of players out there who I admire.

“Some we would be interested in and others we’re not. That’s just the nature of it.

“We are looking to improve as a squad and improve as a team in 2024. So any players who can improve us we will be interested in.”
