Brisbane Broncos powerhouse prop Payne Haas could make sensational move to England

Brisbane Broncos powerhouse prop Payne Haas has been making the media headlines in recent years.

The 22-year-old created a huge media furore by requesting an immediate release earlier in the year and those questions have not gone away.

Haas’ incredible rise to the top. has attracted the interest from European and England rugby outfits which could see a remarkable talent lost to the 15-man code, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Haas will earn $750,000 this season, $800,000 in 2024 and $850,000 the following year under the terms of his Brisbane deal, but it’s been widely held that the 22-year-old will command $1 million.

His friend and mentor Sonny Bill Williams went down the same route and there are calls that Haas could well be influenced by the former hulking cross-code star.

Despite that, Haas has recently revealed that despite calling Europe ‘cool’, he wants to remain in league – for the time being at least.

“I wouldn’t say I have an itch (to leave),” said Haas, admitting he was shocked by reports linking him to European rugby. “I don’t even know where that (European rugby’s interest) came from, I don’t know how that came out. Europe is pretty cool, but I’m not worried about that. I have goals I want to tick off here in the NRL.

“I played rugby as a kid, but I’m not sure about all that (going overseas), I’m enjoying my time playing rugby league.

“I am happy at the Broncos. My family live here (on the Gold Coast) and my preference is to stay at the Broncos, I will say that, but things happen in rugby league and I have to sort that out.”

Haas is well on course for being one of the best forwards to have ever played rugby league, so fingers crossed he will stay in the 13-a-side code.
