Brisbane Broncos hooker puts Super League clubs on red alert after being told he is no longer wanted

A Brisbane Broncos hooker has put Super League clubs on red alert.

Jake Turpin has been told that he will not be given another contract at Red Hill with St George Illawarra Dragons the ones reportedly chasing him, according to the Daily Telegraph.

However, if that doesn’t materialise, then zerotackle has reported that Super League could well be an option with the site saying: “Off contract at season’s end and told to look elsewhere by coach Kevin Walters, the Red V could be the hooker’s last NRL hope before Super League and reserve grade sides start coming into play.”

Turpin will be having what could be termed as an audition in front of his potential new suitors this weekend as the Broncos go up against the Dragons in an NRL fixture.

Meanwhile, fellow Bronco star Tyson Gamble has signed for the Newcastle Knights, according to Daily Telegraph journalist David Riccio.

Gamble, 26, has made 23 first-grade appearances for the Broncos since joining them in 2020 and will move to McDonald Jones Stadium in search of greater opportunity.

“Peter Badel from the Courier Mail suggested as much last much that Tyson Gamble requested a formal release from the final year of his contract at the Broncos next year,” Riccio said.

“It was all my mail that the Newcastle Knights were interested in Gamble and I expect that to be announced within the next 24-48 hours that Tyson Gamble has signed a two-year contract at the Knights from next year.

“I think this will come as somewhat of a surprise to Newcastle fans given so much discussion over the past 12 months was targeted at Luke Brooks from the Wests Tigers.

“I merely believe this is a financial move from the Newcastle Knights because they are so tight on the salary cap, notwithstanding that Tyson Gamble is a young talent as a half.

“He hasn’t played a lot of first-grade but it will come as a surprise to Knights fans and is a little bit concerning that they’re going with an inexperienced halves pairing next year.

“That’s either Jake Clifford and Tyson Gamble or Adam Clune and Tyson Gamble.”
