Brian McDermott linked with shock coaching role

Brian McDermott has been linked with the Featherstone Rovers job.

That’s according to The Game Caller journalist, who said this on Twitter: “Could there about to be a shock coaching change at Featherstone Rovers after owner Mark Campbell has turned his attention to four-time Super League Grand Final winner Brian McDermott. Is McDermott the man for Featherstone to realise their Super League dream? More on @WestYorksRL“.

It really would be an incredible appointment for Featherstone who just missed out on a spot in the top flight with defeat to Toulouse Olympique, 34-12, in the Million Pound Game.

James Webster has been Rovers’ head coach since taking the reins ahead of the 2020 season, but remains out of contract following the culmination of the 2021 season.

McDermott, meanwhile, has not been active at a club since leaving Oldham earlier this year after performing a coaching consultancy role since June, working with Brendan Sheridan.

McDermott didn’t exactly inspire a difference in the Roughyeds’ side, with Oldham on the receiving end of nine losses and one draw.
