Brian Carney claims Super League side have poured historic amount of money into one player

This week Warrington Wolves announced huge extensions for both George Williams and Paul Vaughan.

These two have been at the core of their brilliant start to the season and speaking on Sky Sports, Brian Carney claimed that Warrington have spent more money on Williams than they have any player in the club’s history which has been full of huge signings.

“It has gone down well locally. The local paper the Warrington Guardian carries the news of the monster contract extension offered up to George Williams on both its front and back page,” he said.

“Let’s be honest, Wigan did it last year to keep Bevan French, Warrington have found the money, perhaps the most money they have ever spent on an individual in the summer era, and they have poured it into George Williams such is their faith in this talent.”

Jon Wilkin then added that if the Wolves had left it any later they would have lost him to the NRL:

“I think if they leave it a month they lose him. I think that was the choice they had. If they left it a month or two months, he is in the NRL.

“So it is a great opportunity to go to two players who are smashing it and say ‘here’s a massive contract.

“It’s great business and the timing of it is impressive as well.”

However, Williams was unable to mastermind a Warrington win over former side Wigan Warriors last night as they lost for the first time this season.
