Brett Hodgson provides recruitment latest and Jake Connor update

Brett Hodgson announced his first signing for 2022 today with Darnell McIntosh coming in from Huddersfield, but the Hull FC boss isn’t ruling out anymore.

Though he wasn’t specific, Hodgson is eyeing up players that will help improve his squad for next season.

“I don’t want to put a number on it,” Hodgson said.

“We are trying to build a squad and trying to make ourselves better going into next season, whether that’s with the players we’ve got here or bringing someone in.

“We’ve got conversations going on in the background, but we don’t want to jump out at the first thing that comes forward.”

With the World Cup no longer taking part at the end of 2021, Hodgson believes that discussions need to be taken about the 2022 season.

“It’ll change a number of things, when the season starts and when pre-season starts, the break would have been longer over Christmas if the world cup had been on.

“I think we should the continue the season as it is and give the Grand Final the green light at the end of the tunnel.

“Conversations need to be made whether it starts earlier or later than this year and it’s ultimately a chance to start afresh after a good break.”

Hodgson will welcome back a number of stars this weekend.

“We get a couple back, Danny Houghton and Carlos Tuimavave will play and Josh Bowden comes back into contention as well.

“Jamie Shaul, Jake Connor, Scott Taylor and Masi Matongo are all close to coming back too.”
