Brett Hodgson explains why he has left Luke Gale out of his Hull FC side to play St Helens

There was a shock tonight when Hull FC’s team was announced for their clash against St Helens.

That’s because halfback Luke Gale was absent despite coming back from a two-match ban with Josh Reynolds and Joe Lovodua preferred in the halves.

And, now head coach Brett Hodgson has explained his decision, saying: “We had a couple of tough choices this week, but we want to reward performances.

“And the performance we had with Joe Lovodua and Josh Reynolds in the halves against Catalans deserved it.

“It was a tough conversation for Luke, but he will play a big part in what we do this season.

“He took it brilliantly, they were disappointed but he understood the reasoning and I was honest about that.”
