Hull FC look destined to bring in a new name following the departure of one of their overseas stars.

That overseas star is Will Smith, the former Gold Coast Titans star who joined the Black and Whites on a deal until the end of the season.

Since joining Brett Hodgson’s men, Smith has impressed greatly with his neat footwork and passing ability going down a storm with the Hull faithful.

However, his time at the MKM Stadium will end next week, Hodgson has revealed.

“Will Smith won’t continue here next year,” Hodgson told BBC Humberside.

“Will is going back to Australia after the season ends and it was always our understanding – as it was Will’s – that he would come here and contribute the best he could for this period of the season.

“He’s got a family back in Australia and that’s important to him, so he’ll be leaving with our thanks and our blessing pretty much in the middle of next week.”

Though the Hull faithful will be sad to see Smith depart, it does mean that they now have a quota spot to use in 2023 following his exit.

With Newcastle Knights import Tex Hoy taking Manu Ma’u’s quota spot for 2023, they had just one remaining with Joe Lovodua signing a new deal.

Now, Hodgson and his club are free to explore the option of filling that extra space.
