Brett Hodgson confirms injured star is still in his plans

After being sidelined with a ruptured ACL since the back end of last season, Jamie Shaul is continuing to progress with Hull FC Brett Hodgson confirming that the fullback is still very much in his plans.

“I know how good he’s been in the past, and how good he’s been since I arrived,” Hodgson said.

“He will have a big say in what we do this year, a really big say. He’s invested into what we’re doing around the place, and invested in his recovery. The sooner he’s back, the better it’ll be for us.”

With the form of Jake Connor at fullback, however, it remains to be seen where Shaul will fit in and Hodgson was keeping his cards close to his chest.

“He’ll be competing in playing for the 17 for us.

“There’s no doubt about that.”

“We offloaded his intensity this week, but that was part of the plan from the physios.

“He’s doing really well. He’s on track with everything we’ve asked of him. I still think he’s a good couple of months off, though.

“With knee reconstructions, you always take two or three steps forward, and then have a sideways or backwards step to contend with.

“But we’re happy with the progression of what he’s done, and hopefully everything will continue to go smoothly from here.”
