Bradford Bulls sign highly-rated forward from Championship rival

Bradford Bulls have announced the signing of Championship back-rower Sam Scott.

Scott arrives at the club following four years at York City Knights – where he played a pivotal role in their 2018 League One success and the 2019 Betfred Championship play-off charge.

The 31-year-old is reunited with John Kear – who he played under at Batley when the Bulldogs finished third in the sport’s second tier.

“I am really pleased, I am excited I spent a lot of time at York and loved every minute but felt it was time for a change, to come out of my comfort zone for a new challenge and Bradford was top of my list when I found out they were interested,” said Scott.

“John [Kear] was a big factor I have known him a long time, all the way back to the days at Wakefield when I was in the Academy so I know him well, I get on with him and I think my game suits how he likes to play.

“All players want to be fighting at the right end that is what it’s all about, to be joining a team with aspirations of bigger and better things is fantastic, it will be a very competitive league again next year but we want to be in the play offs again and then it’s anyone’s game.

“They were always great games between York and Bradford, two big clubs with good fan bases, always a good atmosphere and the players did it justice each time it never disappointed.

“I like to be physical and aggressive, I like to be competitive and win everything I do – whether that is getting a positive outcome with the ball, a quick offload or a quick play the ball or whether its slowing them down in defence.

“I am really looking forward to playing in front of the Bradford fans, the atmosphere and experience at Odsal was always something to relish and also having the travelling Bradford fans was always something you look out for – to be able to have that every week makes a massive difference.”

Bradford boss Kear believes Scott’s arrival will add a new dimension to his back row – insisting his experience will prove beneficial next term.

“Sam is a very uncompromising back rower, he has a no-nonsense approach about his play and he offers something different to the players we currently possess in that area,” said Kear, who is sponsored by Bradford Bulls Banter.

“I obviously worked with Sam back in 2016 at Batley, when we had that great season finishing third so I know the type of player we are getting.

“He is very experienced at this level having finished in the play-offs with York also so I am absolutely delighted he is going to be joining us next season.”
