Bradford Bulls reportedly set to swoop for Leeds Rhinos man on short-term deal

Bradford Bulls are reportedly eyeing up a Leeds Rhinos man on a short-term deal following a number of catastrophic incidents in the halves.

That’s according to Bradford reporter The Game Caller who told The Full Eighty Minutes podcast: “With Dec Patton getting banned for the remainder of season and Jordan Lilley out for the rest of the season, Mark Dunning in an interview said he will be on the phone to Rohan Smith about some emergency cover at halfback this week.”

Patton, of course, was banned for seven games for an eye gouge by an Operations Tribunal earlier in the week with the Bulls now down to the bare bones.

The RFL tweeted: “Disciplinary news: Bradford Bulls’ Dec Patton must serve a 7 match suspension after being found guilty of a Grade E gouging offence committed during his side’s recent match against Halifax panthers. He has also been fined £250.”

With the Bulls needing extra cover in the halves, it was mooted by leading player agent, Craig Harrison of Show Me The Money UK, that it could well be Jack Sinfield making the trip over to Odsal on emergency cover.

With Bradford enduring a difficult season in which they have finished outside the top six play-offs meaning Championship rugby league is guaranteed for 2023, recruitment will start in earnest with as many as 16 expected to leave the Odsal outfit.

With as many as that leaving, of course, the Bulls will need to bring in a number of players and head coach Mark Dunning told Bradford reporter The Game Caller that three recruits will be named at the start of next week.

“Bradford have got three signings that will get announced this coming week and that was from Mark Dunning yesterday,” The Game Caller said on The Full Eighty Minutes podcast.

Patton was banned on Tuesday night, which turned out to be a busy night for the Operations Tribunal with Leigh Centurions’ Nene MacDonald and Featherstone Rovers’ Tyla Hepi being given three-match bans each for punching during Leigh’s win over Featherstone at the Summer Bash.

And, just yesterday, London Broncos star Sitiveni Moceidreke and former Super League winger Kieron Dixon could face TWELVE-match bans for unacceptable language after the duo were charged with Grade F offences.
