Bradford Bulls have released forward Keven Appo after the forward has been charged with multiple sexual offences including rape.
Appo, 25, signed with the Bulls from PNG Hunters ahead of the 2023 season and has been a mainstay in the team since then – making 61 appearances for the club. During that time, he has scored 21 tries.
He is also a Papua New Guinea international, making three appearances for the Kumuls including two at the 2022 World Cup.
The Championship outfit have confirmed his release with a short statement.
It read: “Following today’s West Yorkshire Police statement, the Bradford Bulls have cancelled Keven Appo’s playing contract.
“Given the circumstances, the club is duty bound to make no further comment at this stage.
“The search for a suitable, quality replacement is underway.”
Bradford Bulls forward released after sexual assault charges
That West Yorkshire Police statement, shared on their Facebook page, confirmed that Appo had been charged with multiple sexual offences after a report made in April 2024.
That statement read: “A man from Calderdale has been charged with multiple sexual offences.
“Keven Appo, aged 25 of Halifax, has been charged with rape, sexual assault on a female and two counts of assault.
“He has been bailed and is due to appear at Bradford Magistrates Court on Monday 6th January 2025.
“The charges relate to an investigation by Calderdale District Adult Protection Team following a report made in April 2024.”
Appo was primed to have another leading role for the Bulls in the 2025 Championship campaign with Bradford seen by many as one of the favourites to claim the title.
Whilst Bradford played a pre-season friendly in December, the Papua New Guinean did not feature in the match against Keighley Cougars.
