Bradford Bulls could have five key players back from injury when they take on visitors Hull FC this weekend.
Team boss Kurt Haggerty confirmed forward Eribe Doro, half-back Jayden Nikorima, full-back Luke Hooley, winger Jayden Okenbor and centre Waqa Blake “will all be in contention to play”.
Blake has been sidelined since suffering knee damage in the Good Friday derby defeat by Leeds Rhinos, an injury which was initially expected to keep him off the field for 12 weeks.
Doro picked up an ankle problem in a Challenge Cup loss to Wigan Warriors two months ago, Hooley (shoulder) has missed Bulls’ last four games and Nikorima (hamstring) has been unavailable for a similar length of time. Okunbor sustained a knee injury against Hull in Super League round one.
Having no game last week, because of the Challenge Cup semi-finals, gave Bulls’ casualties extra time to recover and Haggerty feels they are in a healthier state going into Sunday’s fixture than previous weeks.
Haggerty said: “It has given us an opportunity to get back on the training field, work on some things we needed to work on from the first 10 weeks of Super League and get some bodies back.
“We have used the time well, prepping for this game in particular. We are getting there, slowly – when I go in the treatment room now there’s not 14 people in, it’s eight-10. That does help a little bit. We are nearly getting up around 20 at training now.”
Among the players still unavailable is hooker Mitch Souter picked up a two-match ban for a grade D dangerous throw against Wigan a fortnight ago.
That rules him out of Sunday’s game, but a reserves fixture last week counted towards his suspension so he will be in contention for the trip to Warrington Wolves in Super League round 12.
