Brad Arthur sends playoffs warning despite Leeds Rhinos hopes dwindling

Leeds Rhinos

Despite the club’s top six hopes dwindling after their Magic Weekend loss to Warrington Wolves, Brad Arthur has claimed that their Super League rivals will not want to meet Leeds Rhinos in the playoffs should they make it.

Leeds Rhinos lost 24-6 to Warrington Wolves in a more closely-fought game than the scoreline would suggest with just two points separating the sides for the first 37 minutes.

Rodrick Tai then laid on a huge shot forcing the ball to be dropped and seized upon by George Williams who ran in from halfway to break the game open and give Warrington an 8-0 halftime lead.

Ten minutes into the second half the game blew open after David Fusitu’a’s controversial sin bin with Leeds shipping two tries whilst at a man disadvantage and from there the game was ultimately lost.

Brad Arthur had bemoaned the sin bin post-match when speaking to Sky Sports and he also conceded that the result likely meant Leeds would have to win every single game they have left.

He agreed: “Yeah, yeah, but we’ll take it a week at a time and if they keep coming with that attitude and fronting up with that physicality and effort, like, we’ll get more wins than we get losses and we just have to see where it takes us.”

Can Leeds Rhinos make the Super League playoffs?

Whilst the biggest question is if Leeds Rhinos can make the playoffs, Brad Arthur has stated that if they do then they will be a feared team.

They were comments he made when speaking to BBC Radio Leeds post-match with the Australian speaking about his side’s strong performance and the way in which they continue to improve during his tenure.

He explained: “There’s some things we need to tidy up generally but I feel like we’ve showed against the top teams we’re not that far off. We’ve got to continue doing that for the rest of the year.

“I’ve said to the players, and we’ve not talked about the finals and I don’t want to know where we sit on the ladder and all that, but if we manage to get there then I feel a few teams don’t want us there.”

As yet, there is no official line on his future despite reports down under that he will sign a two-year deal and when pressed about his future by Sky Sports’ Jenna Brooks, Arthur was too disappointed to speak on the matter.

“I’ll maybe get through tonight, I’m a little bit disappointed with the boys, but hopefully soon.”
