Leeds Rhinos man’s son makes key transfer decision

Brad Arthur interviewed Leeds Rhinos

The son of Leeds Rhinos head coach Brad Arthur has made a key transfer decision ahead of the 2025 season.

Brad Arthur is only contracted with the Rhinos until the end of the current campaign, but has refused to rule anything out for next season.

He was with Parramatta Eels for over a decade, before being relieved of his duties a day before his birthday this year.

He have his son a game in pre-season, but Matt Arthur didn’t make his NRL debut until after his father had left the club.

Trent Barrett gave him three games from the bench in Rounds 17, 18 and 19, but then hasn’t picked him again.

Instead, he;s been playing for the NSW Cup reserve-grade side at hooker, and has scored two tries this season.

At just 19, he has plenty of potential, and was contracted with the Eels through 2026, but asked for permission to leave the club at the end of the year, reportedly due to how his father was treated.

This was granted by the club, leaving him free to join someone else.

Now, it’s reported that he won’t be joining his father in moving to Super League, instead joining Newcastle Knights on a three-year deal.

He would likely be competing with Jayden Brailey for a starting spot at hooker, unless Brailey leaves the club – which has been suggested.

The under-19 NSW representative could be thrown into first-team action in 2025 despite his lack of experience.

Brad Arthur’s future is yet to be determined however, with it being completely unclear as to whether he will remain at Leeds Rhinos next year, or whether he will instead look for a return to Australia – where he had previously spent his whole career.
