Brad Arthur refuses to rule out more Leeds Rhinos departures in recruitment drive

Brad Arthur has refused to rule out the possibility of more players leaving Leeds Rhinos at the end of the 2024 Super League season.

The Rhinos have already announced that six players will be departing at the end of the season with Rhyse Martin being arguably the most high profile. The back-rower will be taking up a contract with Rhinos’ rivals Hull KR for next season with his exit seen as something of a blow.

David Fusitu’a will be allowed to leave, too, after a challenging three-year spell in West Yorkshire, while Luis Roberts, Corey Johnson, Kieran Hudson and Bradford Bulls bound James Donaldson have also seen their exits confirmed.

However, Leeds have made no secret of their desire to add to their squad for 2025 with Ryan Hall their only confirmed recruit for next season. Ian Blease has spoken about managing the salary cap and Arthur has outlined his ambition to add an outside back and a middle to his ranks after missing out on Jordan Rapana, who will be joining Hull FC in the off-season.

There’s work to be done and plenty of decisions still to be made then, but asked if more contracted players could be moved on, Arthur said: “We’ve got a few spots available so we need to look to add to those spots first and from there we’ll reassess again and see.

“Any and every decision we make will be what’s best for the club moving forward. I’ve left that with Ian at the moment, because my full attention is on what’s happening right now and the guys who have given their all and are working their butts off for this club.”

Leeds Rhinos take on Wigan Warriors at the Brick Community Stadium this evening as they look to keep their chances of securing a Super League play-off spot alive.
