Bitter Super League rivals enjoy training session alongside each other

Wakefield Trinity

There are a number of big rivalries in Super League.

Wigan Warriors and St Helens, Hull FC and Hull KR, and of course Castleford Tigers and Wakefield Trinity which for years had been dominated by the Tigers.

These are two of four West Yorkshire sides in Super League all of whom have rivalries and as Wakefield prepare for a battle with another of their rivals on Boxing Day, the Leeds Rhinos, Trinity enjoyed a training session alongside Castleford today.

Trinity are yet to confirm their 17 for the game but it has been speculated that new signing Renouf Atoni could be involved after he said to BBC Radio Leeds:

“I’m ready to get going now, I’ve been looking forward to it,” he said.

“That’s one thing Rhyse Martin mentioned, he said ‘you know we play each other on Boxing Day?’ I was like sweet, I’m normally on break for a couple of weeks in that time but it’s good to get going early.

“It will be really different for me, but the earlier to get involved the better because we have some new boys in so the earlier we can build combinations the better.”

Leeds meanwhile have named the following team:

5 Ash Handley

28 Max Simpson

30 Levi Edwards

16 Derrell Olpherts

23 Liam Tindall

20 Morgan Gannon

1 Richie Myler

22 Sam Walters

9 Kruise Leeming

18 Tom Holroyd

33 Joe Gibbons

19 James McDonnell

25 James Donaldson

 Substitutes:

14 Jarrod O’Connor

17 Justin Sangare

31 Leon Ruan

17 Mackenzie Turner

42 Tom Nicholson-Watton

34 Alfie Edgell

32 Oli Field

38 Jack Smith
