Sam Tomkins is one of few men to win the Man of Steel award twice and his most recent success came only two years ago in 2021.
The England captain is still a key player for Catalans Dragons so they will want to get him back from injury as soon as possible.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Tomkins said he would be back in a few weeks despite the original assessment saying he would miss the first four or five rounds:
“Back in a couple of weeks, I was supposed to miss the first four or five rounds, but I have healed up a bit better than I thought. So the next couple of weeks I will be back.”
Then on Channel 4, he said he could play this week: “If my physio is watching them back in three weeks, but if you’re asking me, I should be playing this week.”
Tomkins is confident in the re-build that is taking place at the Dragons.
He admitted that when you lose players, you need to bring in “something new” and he has been really impressed:
“We lost a few players before the end of last season and it is always important when you lose someone to bring in something new,” he said on Sky Sports.
“Manu Ma’u has been really impressive, he is knocking blokes over every week. Siosiua Taukeiaho is really impressive too.”
