Big moment for Jack Walker awaits as Super League youngster set for debut

Jack Walker’s move to Bradford Bulls was one of the biggest stories of the winter.

Super League’s youngest ever Champion having been key to Leeds Rhinos’ last Grand Final success in 2017 at the age of just little over 18 has had torrid injury luck in recent years.

After starting off the 2020 season brilliantly he spent six months injured. He was set for a return in 2021 but again picked up an injury that would end his season before it began.

In 2022 long term injuries when he was still playing for Leeds and when on loan at Hull FC made the season tough again so he went to the Championship to reinvent himself thus he joined Bradford Bulls on a one-year deal.

In a pre-season friendly against the Rhinos, he was exceptional out the back looking like a running threat but having the skills to create chances for others. He looked set to excel in the Championship and have Super League clubs knocking but four minutes into his full debut for the Bulls in the Championship opener against Whitehaven, the fullback was taken off replaced by veteran George Flanagan Sr.

Speaking to Bulls TV after the game, coach Mark Dunning revealed that it was a leg injury and that he would be assessed:

“We haven’t got an update yet, he went off after five minutes with an injury so he will be assessed tomorrow and we’ll go from there.

“It’s a leg injury that all I know. We will have to assess him in the injury clinic tomorrow.”

It was later revealed that Walker suffered a suspected hamstring injury.

But today Dunning has named his 21-Man Squad for this weekend’s Challenge Cup fifth round clash against Halifax Panthers and Walker is included.

Jason Qareqare is named following his loan move from Castleford Tigers that was announced earlier today, with Fenton Rogers also coming into contention following his two-match suspension.

Rob Butler’s loan has been extended so he is eligible to play, with namesake Chester Butler also in the frame having recovered from injury.
