Bevan French says “individual lapses” were the difference between Wigan and Leeds

Yesterday we were treated to a classic Challenge Cup tie between the competition’s two most successful sides.

It was a Wigan Warriors side who have their fair share of injuries who claimed the win with some young players playing a key role including Junior Nsemba who scored the Warriors’ equaliser as they came back from 14-0 down against the Leeds Rhinos.

After the game star man Bevan French paid tribute to the Warriors’ youngsters:

“I think everyone has really strong starting line ups but it is when your depth gets tested throughout the season and you have to call on the younger players from the academy and they really stood up today I think.”

French meanwhile claimed that it was individual lapses that were the difference in the game:

“It was a really close game and in the end I think it came down to individual lapses. I said earlier that I thought both teams were really on it. Both teams as a collective did their jobs so it just came down to individual moments, lapses mentally that was the difference.”

Wigan’s defence of the Challenge Cup now goes on as they look to win their 21st Challenge Cup and extend their own record.

For Leeds it is back to the drawing board.
