Bevan French in Wigan Warriors delay

Bevan French will not be returning to the Wigan Warriors this week after he tested positive for Covid-19 as he tried to board a plane.

The Australian was set to fly home to Manchester Airport and reunite with the Warriors, but that will now be delayed following the news.

“Believe it or not, when he got to the airport he tested positive for Covid, so that wasn’t ideal,” Peet told the Manchester Evening News in his pre-match press conference ahead of his side’s clash with the Leeds Rhinos on Friday.

“With him waiting so long, he’s upset but it puts things on hold for eight or nine days.

“In the next couple of days hopefully, we’ll get some good news – as soon as he gets a negative test, he will be on the next flight.”

Peet also revealed that French will not simply slot back into the side once he does make his return, stressing it will take some time for him to regain fitness.

“He had a couple of down weeks around his mum’s passing, but he’s been hitting all his markers on his running and strength work,” he said.

“We might have to have a couple of weeks of catch up, but until he’s 100 per cent fit and flying, he won’t play.”
