Tigers’ star allegedly bet on players he was marking to score

Tigers star facing ban for betting offences

Wests Tigers back Tim Simona faces allegations that he arranged bets to be placed on opposing players he was marking to score tries last season.

It’s reported by Fairfax Media that Simona helped facilitate the bets through people he knew and if found guilty, he will be permanently banned by the NRL.

The Tigers have been keen to offload the 25-year-old to resolve salary cap issues, however they will be under the cap for 2017 if his contract is terminated by the NRL.

Simona was initially given five business days to put together an appeal to salvage his career, but it is understood he is still receiving information from the NRL’s investigation.

The Samoan international will front the NRL’s integrity unit five days from the point of receiving all relevant documentation.
