Benji Marshall offered staggering deal to continue playing

Despite Benji Marshall being expected to announce his retirement, a number of clubs have offered the exceptional talent a staggering deal to continue playing on in 2022.

Marshall has reportedly discussed his future in the sport with his South Sydney Rabbitohs teammates following the club’s heartbreaking loss to Penrith Panthers at the weekend.

“Everyone wants to know what I am doing. I will get through the next few days and see what I will do on Wednesday and Thursday,” Marshall said.

“I think that I’ll know in the bottom of my heart if it is time or not.”

One of those clubs involved is said to be the Gold Coast Titans, with head coach Justin Holbrook desperate for a new leader in the halves following the likely exit of Jamal Fogarty and Ash Taylor.

Marshall couldn’t thank the Rabbitohs enough for the opportunity, having linked up with former coach Wayne Bennett – who himself is exiting the club.

“I’m extremely grateful, I think, more than anything,” the former Kiwi international said.

“To have the opportunity to represent this great club and play with the players that I got to play with this year.”
