Benji Marshall in bizarre Subway promotional video

Benji Marshall trains with his new club Brisbane Broncos.

Just when you think you have seen it all in rugby league, something pops up out of the blue to make you think again.

Benji Marshall only just retired at the end of the 2021 NRL season, but now he has starred in a promotional video with Subway as part of Channel 9’s Celebrity Apprentice.

It is for charity so hats off to the former South Sydney Rabbitohs and Wests Tigers halfback, but it is definitely something that has taken people by surprise!

Soon, the halfback hero will start his role as a development coach and ambassador at the Wests Tigers – the club he infamously left at the end of 2020.

That messy departure, however, is water under the bridge according to the man himself.

“I am everywhere, I am like Subway,” Marshall joked on NRL on Nine.

“I wasn’t sure I would end up back here but the opportunity to coach kids and help the future superstars is a massive thing for me.”

The New Zealander was also keen to stress that there is nothing with his relationship with current Wests boss Michael Maguire.

“I’m very professional, it doesn’t matter how you end and I will always be a big part of the Wests Tigers and they will always be a big part of me.

“I caught up with Madge (Michael Maguire) after I left and we cleared the air.

“Communication just broke down whilst I was there which was disappointing but rugby league is a business.”
