It’s set to be a busy sporting weekend with the football World Cup entering the knockout stages this weekend, however one of the best events is happening in St Helens on Sunday.
Alex Walmsley’s Testimonial game will be played at Ruskin Sports Village (1.45pm) with the ‘Big Alex Team’ taking on the ‘SPF Team’ representing the Steve Prescott Foundation.
The unique mixed-sex ‘All Stars’ match will feature rugby league greats with current St Helens coach Paul Wellens and his former team-mates Maurie Fa’asavalu and Matty Smith among a star-studded ‘Big Alex Team’.
On the ‘SPF Team’ are former enemies of St Helens, Adrian Morley, Ben Westwood and Mick Cassidy, with a number of current women’s stars on both teams including Amy Hardcastle, Leah Burke and Shona Hoyle.
Fans will also be participating after spots were sold off to compete in the game and shirts were also sponsored. For just £5 you can attend and do your bit for the charity and under-16s go in free of charge.
Walmsley is supporting the Steve Prescott Foundation with the proceeds of the match going to the charity set up in honour of one of rugby league’s most heroic personalities.

Walmsley, 32, has played 245 games for the current four-time reigning Super League champions having joined the club from Batley in 2013.
Currently injured, he’s set to be on the sidelines directing around his team that is set to feature some of the sport’s biggest names.
The day will also include entertainment afterwards, ending in everyone there watching England’s football World Cup match against Senegal which kicks off at 7pm UK time.
